Finding the Best of FIND – Design Fair Asia
Asia’s newest and largest design fair is pulling out the stops to make its mark. From furniture showcases and pavilions from a wide variety of brands and countries, to talks and masterclasses, there’s much to experience during its three-day run, including our picks below:
Find #1: Italian Design Futures Capsule
Stop, think, feel… This imaginative showcase by Stefano Boeri Interiors celebrates creativity, craftsmanship and design thinking from Italy through exhibiting up to 50 brands from the country. Among them include Italian Texstyle, Nahoor Limelight and Terzani. A modular approach was adopted, allowing every square inch of surface to be used for products and story-telling, while inspiring the visitor to freely navigate all the savoir faire on display.
Find #2: FIND – Global Summit
With six content pillars to cover across three days, the conference component of FIND will cover plenty of ground that is relevant to the 21st century designer. Curated by tastemakers and key opinion leaders Tony Chambers and Yoko Choy, it will feature 20 renowned speakers – dubbed “Insiders” – including Alexandra Champalimaud, Teo Yang, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu.
Also of note is the discussion on blockchain technology and the metaverse and how they will impact the future. Panellists include Hunn Wai, the Creative Director of Lanzacechia + Wai Design Studio, and Azusa Murakami, Co-founder of Studio Swine.
Find #3: INTERNI Masterclasses
Go back to school with masterclasses rolled out by Italian interiors and contemporary design magazine INTERNI. Developed by its editor Gilda Bojardi and moderated by architect Carlo Biasia, they will be centred on creative exchanges between designers and entrepreneurs from the East and West. For instance, at The Art of Living, learn more about how the home is being redesigned to become the centre of people’s worlds, balancing work, socialising and wellness all within four walls.
Find #4: SFIC Urban Living Showcase
Organised by the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC), this showcase will present new urban living concepts that feature clever work-life integration ideas and sustainability. It is born from its Design Innovation Programme launched in 2019, where Singapore furniture brands and manufacturers collaborated with designers to create entire collections that push the boundaries beyond aesthetics to cater to an urban lifestyle.
Find #5: The Best Italian Brands
With Fiera Milano as a co-organiser, FIND would be incomplete without a staging of Italian brands. Look out for Agglotech SpA, Europe’s largest producer of terrazzo; Terzani, a luxury lighting brand with an artisanal tradition; and Ernestomeda, a high-end kitchen manufacturer. On a smaller scale, there is the charming Aina Kari from Venice, which makes home décor with Italian Murano glass and Palissandro marble.
Find #6: Compasso d'Oro Awards
Get up close with a capsule collection of winning Italian products and projects by one of the most important design awards in the world. Look out especially for GIOTTO, designed by Makio Hasuike & Co. for Repower. A charging device for electric vehicles, it is equally compatible in indoor and outdoor space and even a domestic setting. Mount it on a wall, ground or pole and customise a cover for it so it can camouflage neatly into the background.
Find #7: Czech Pavilion
Check in at this Eastern European country’s pavilion, one of several that are on display at the fair that spotlight national culture and design. The Czech Republic is most well-known for glass and among the exhibitors are brands like Robert Halama Czech Art Crystal and Elite Bohemia. Delight too in the grand and upright pianos by Petrof and kitchenware art label UBRD.
